Obituary for Arzella A Martin

INDIAN TRAIL – Arzella A. Martin, 91, of Indian Trail, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2019 at home.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Gateway Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Hugh Foy. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service. The church is located at 6321 Robinson Church Road in Charlotte.
Arzella was born on September 2, 1927 in East Bend, N.C. to the late Odell Adams and Thelma Adams. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Poindexter Sr. and her second husband, Berman Martin, as well as a step-daughter, Lisa Martin.
Arzella is survived by her son, Howard Poindexter Jr. of Charlotte, her daughters, Peggy Craver (Johnny) of Mooresville, Debbie Williams (Mike)of Monroe, JoAnne Todd (Johnny) of Jefferson, SC, and her step-daughter, Susan Briggs (Bill) of Concord, and step-son, Steve Martin (Cindy) of Midland City, AL. She had 11 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
For many years she worked at the Kiddie Korner children’s shop on the square in Charlotte and worked for 15 years as a cafeteria worker in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system.
She loved her entire family very much and enjoyed their visits. The family is especially grateful for the care that her granddaughter, Kristi Beaver, and Kristi’s children gave her in the final months. She lived with Kristi for the last several years.
Arzella loved to cook, really enjoyed fishing in Lake Tillery, and also loved playing keno at Harrah’s in Cherokee.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Gateway Baptist Church or to the Humane Society of Charlotte.
