Obituary for Kenneth Lynn Covington

Kenneth Lynn (KC) Covington passed on to his next experience April 1, 2019. Born in Charlotte 8/1/1949 he was the only child of Bruce Watkins Covington and Alice Frances Frazier Covington. He attended Chantilly Elementary School and Garinger High School and received a full scholarship to Dayton Beach Jr Collage to study his first love, automotive technology. A mechanical genius, KC could and did fix anything and leaves behind a vast array of every tool ever needed. All things automotive from the family cars to NASCAR racing gave him great joy.

He graduated from UNCC with a degree in business and was immediately drafted. Vehemently
anti war but wanting to do the right thing he chose to join the Coast Guard where he could help people. He spent 4 years doing search and rescue, and mapping icebergs in the North Atlantic and later as a yeoman on Governor’s Island in the New York City Harbor. He had great fun when he got to drive huge military vehicles through Manhattan.

After discharge he returned to Charlotte were he worked briefly as a painter before going into the restaurant business at The White Horse on East Blvd, Proposition 45 on Providence Rd and The Miner’s Daughter near UNCC among others. He loved cooking and serving and helping people.

KC became a Realtor in 1984 where he helped 1000’s people buy and sell or fix and repair their homes . He built many lifelong friends among his clients and the real estate community.

Blessed with the gift of gab and a heart of gold, KC never met a stranger and could converse easily with the most elite and the simplest of people. He always wore a smile and was loved by everyone who met him.

KC is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Eileen Howe Covington, his son Bryan Sean Covington and wife Kenna, his grandson John Henry (Jack) Covington, his 2 beloved dogs Angel and Grace, and his feral cat mafia Pretty Boy, Big Tiny, Isis and Sonny.

The family wishes to thank The people at Novant Hospice, especially Chanaya, Diane, Katheryn, Somer and Kathy for helping to make his transition as peaceful as possible.
