Obituary for Laura Joanna Barksdale
Laura Joanna Wilkie Barksdale, 92 of Charlotte, NC, died on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, surrounded by her loved ones. Mrs. Barksdale was a native of China Grove, NC, born on August 29, 1926, to Thomas S. Wilkie and Vera Eddleman Wilkie. She was a graduate of China Grove High School and attended Woman's College of Greensboro, NC. She was a charter member of Providence Baptist Church and served as church administrator at Carmel Baptist Church for over 20 years and First Baptist Church of Weddington for approximately 10 years until her retirement.
Mrs. Barksdale is survived by her daughters Katherine Pope of Alpharetta, GA, Laura Webb of Indian Trail, NC, June Dodson of Greensboro, NC, Carol Sykes of Indian Trail, NC, and Amy Brotherton of Mooresville, NC, and daughter-in-law Teresa Barksdale Hartman of Matthews, NC. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Barksdale was predeceased by her husband Henry W. Barksdale, son Billy Barksdale, grandsons Richard Dodson and Adam Sykes, and sister Janie Templeton.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Barksdale will be held at Providence Baptist Church, 4921 Randolph Road, Charlotte, NC in the Gordon Weekley Chapel on Saturday, December 29, 2018. The family will receive friends at 2:00 PM with the service to follow at 3:00 PM. The Reverend Bill Fogarty and Dr. Don Bouldin will officiate.
